Seth sat with his back to a tree trunk, looking up into the sky. He sighed softly. That business with Asher and Kineta had not gone over well with anyone. He looked around silently, then whirled, drawing his sword in defense, when he heard a slight rustling.

Asher came through the bushes. "Calm yourself old man." He glared at him. "Your but a fool."

'Old' was an overstatement. Seth looked no older than twenty-five. He shrugged, but didn't relax his guard. "I know that. Aren't we all..." He smiled obscurely.

Asher now walked fulled out of the bushes. He was very beat up, blood everywhere, and his clothes torn. "I guess." He walked to the river and splashed his face. His back looked like he had been whiped many times, and he had.

Despite Seth and Asher pretty much being mortal enemies, Seth sheathed his sword and walked over, crouching beside him. "What the...what happened to you!?"

Asher stood up from his kneeling position and looked down at Seth. "People wishing to hurt your daughter." He looked away and kicked a peble into the water.

Seth knew pretty well who those people would be. "You need some help." He murmured, and stood beside Asher, looking over at him with serious eyes.

Asher shook his head. "Nah. I'm fine." He turned and started walking, wincing slightly as a tree branch dug into a gash on his side, making it bleed. "There dead, they woun't bother her anymore and thats good enough."

Seth sighed softly, and walked alongside Asher. He pulled a bandage out of his pocket. "Use this, at least." He handed it to the bandit leader.

Asher looked at the bandage. "Sorry, but I really don't trust you." He trudged on. It was winter, and frozen blood was not the best thing in the world. Asher kept walking and soon was noticably going slower, his blood cooling to much around the gashes. Soon he fell down to his knees. "Fuckin' body, why woun't you ever listen?" He spoke under his visable breath then felt a hand on his shoulder.

Seth held his shoulder firmly. His eyes didn't hold hate. "I don't blame you, not after the way I acted. You took what they meant for my daughter, and I can't forget that."

Asher looked over, his vision clouding. "They wanted her dead. This was good for what...." He paused to cough. "For what they wanted to do to her." He got up again, still moving to slow for his oun good.

Now Seth made him stop. "You need treatment. It's too much to ask you to return to my home, but you need to see someone." He murmured, firmly, but not unkindly.

Asher shook his head and looked down. "Why? I'll just die tomorow anyway." He knew there was no way in Hell he could stay underwater for eight minutes! He would die, there wasn't any point. "You don't get it."

"I know I don't. I don't know anything about your life, but I know that something is definitely wrong. What is going to happen tomorrow?" Seth inquired quietly, his voice neither angry nor quite calm. It was putting him on edge to be talking like this, as if Asher would die tomorrow, and he didn't know why.

Asher looked up at him, his vision slightly clouding, getting worse by the minute. "Leadership Challenge." He looked away. "I have to stay under water for eight minutes, and I can't do it. I just can't." His voice was without self-pity, it never had any. "But I deserve what I..." He fell over.

Seth caught him. Home it is. He muttered darkly, and loaded the unconscious Asher onto his back, then carried him towards his home. He finally reached it, with Asher still unconscious, and washed and dressed the wounds, then waited for him to wake up. He had not taken his sword.

Ace came out of his room. "Hey Dad.... WOH! You know he isn't alowd here!" He dropped the book and walked over. "What happened to him?"

"He said that someone wanted Kineta dead, and he killed them so that they would not hurt her. For that, I think he should be allowed to stay here for awhile, at least until he wakes up." Seth murmured, and it was true.

Ace blinked then saw that Asher had sweat dripping from his brow, he felt his forehead. "Hes sick." He went to wet a cloth. "You better hope mom undertsands when she gets home."

"I doubt she will. But I'm pretty sure I can persuade her." Seth murmured, then went for another cloth, and soaked it in cool water, wrung it out, and pressed it down on Asher's forehead. "This kid's brave, I'll give him that much."

Ace smiled. "Bandits don't stick up for anyone but another one of them. Why did he defend Kin?" He placed his cloth on Ashers neck, hoping to cool him there as well.

"I would say that he loves her. She isn't a bandit, so it wouldn't be that. If this doesn't prove that he really loves her, nothing will." Seth smiled at his son.

Ace nodded. "Oh." He looked over when Asher moaned. "I think hes waking up."
Asher moaned then opened his eyes and all he saw was a blur. He looked around, but his eyes did not clear.

Seth gently kept him from moving. "Don't try to move, it'll make the injuries worse." He murmured softly.

Asher looked for the souce of the sound, but ended up closing his eyes again. "What?" His voice was grogy, and clearly showed he was not in good shape.
Ace grinned. "Asher? Can you hear us?" "Ofcorse you fool. I'm not deaf." Suddenly the door opened.

Seth looked up. Ohhhhh shit... It was Kikoto. He hesitated, then changed the cloth on Asher's forehead and waited for the living Hell to attack.

Kikoto walked in. "ACE, SETH! I'M HOME!" She then saw them on the floor. "What are you.... Why is he here?!" Se pointed to Asher.
Asher heard Kikoto. "Not like I want to be here." He never got sick, but when he did, he couldn't help but be mad and unthankful.

Seth wasn't usually particularly steadfast on unimportant matters, but he was not going to be swayed on this one. "He's here, because he took what someone wanted to do to Kineta. I believe that is reason enough for him to be allowed here, and at least tolerated."

Kikoto knelt down on the other side of Asher. "You protected her?" "Not really.... She wasn't with me." He tried opened his eyes, they were very sensitive to light, and instantly started to water, plus they were blurry, so he closed them again. "Damn eyes."
Kikoto smiled then brushed some hair from his face. "Well...." She felt that his forehead was warm. "Your sick." "I am not."
